Early Trimming

  While my business keeps me driving through all parts of the city I am surprised by the number of  trees being trimmed along esplanades, etc. I was always taught a good rule of thumb was to hold off on any trimming until after February 14 (Valentine's Day). If you prune and trim your trees and plants now it will encourage tender new growth which is susceptible to cold temperatures. I see we are due more cold weather next week that will be in the low 30's at night.
  So try to be patient about trimming any shrubs or trees right now. Remember: last February we had a really bad cold snap that got night time temperatures down to the mid 20's! Global warming my rear!
