If the weather men are right it looks like we are in for a couple of cold snaps again on Thursday and Friday night. Here are a few tips before the potential of a light freeze occurs:
- Make sure your plants are watered in advance of the freeze. A wet rootball aides in protecting the plant during a freeze.
- Try to cover any plants that might be suseptible to the cold weather. Last week there was a shortage around town on frost cloth material and many homeowners were using sheets, dropcloths, etc. Those items will work fine.
- If it starts to warm up you will need to remove the plant covers.
- Don't forget to drain your irrigation system! The back flow valve has a plastic diaphragm and will freeze if not drained.
Good luck!
Chuck,
ReplyDeleteMy plastic diaphragm still froze (even though we drained the system)! It's just that cold!
