I hope we have seen the last of the really cold weather. One group of Texans that needs our help after this cold snap are some of the birds that populate our neighborhoods. They are building nests and looking for an easy meal.

They would like nothing more than to find your bird feeders full of their favorite seeds. My wife and I put sunflower seeds in our many feeders and watch as the Cardinals, Red Headed Finches, Doves, and many other birds take turns at each of the feeders. Be careful of some seed products as the spilled seeds from the birds eating fall to the ground and sprout unwanted plants causing an unwanted mess in the landscape or lawn.

If you don't have a bird feeder they are inexpensive and can be found at many of the home improvement stores and even some landscape outlets. They are usually made from wood, metal, or plastic. I prefer non wood feeders as they last much longer. Some also have devices that keep the squirrels from getting all the seeds before the birds.
A good place for your new feeder is near your landscape areas or trees to give the birds a type of cover and security. If you get a new feeder you will be amazed at how soon the birds will be regular visitors......good luck!
